2016 has been quite a rollercoaster. It started with us anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new bundle of joy but then only a couple of months later was the early and scary arrival of our sweet sweet boy.

Hudson's 1st Christmas was SO much fun! All he wanted to do was eat the boxes and play with the paper, of course. We are so thankful this Christmas to be home and healthy. Thank you all for the many and continued prayers.

Whew, what a day! We left our house at 8:30am, dropped the girls off at a friend's house, and headed off to Riley Hospital for a couple of appointments today. We just got back home around 3:00pm and boy are we tired.

7 months old today and smiley as can be! Mommy and Hudson spent the day at Riley Children's hospital for our monthly renal appointment. He also had his follow up appointment from his g-tube surgery back in April.

Hudson had a big appointment this morning with his neurologist. He is 6 months old but 5 months adjusted. There have been a few concerns as of late and the neurologist agreed it's best to get that occupational and physical therapy started ASAP.

6 months?!? Our little Huddy Buddy is 6 months old TODAY. I just can't believe it. In the last 6 months time has stood still and yet has gone so fast at the same time. Hudson has endured far greater trials that we never thought would be something our family would go through. From lack of oxygen at birth, to the unknown neurological damage he might have, to his kidneys not working, and enduring 6 surgeries by 6 months....our sweet sweet Hudson has stayed so strong and still manages to give you a smile.

Hudson was scheduled for G-Tube surgery on Monday, August 22nd. Jess and I decided to go with the G-Tube after spending 2 1/2 months using the NG-Tube. Hudson was only supposed to be in the hospital for 3-4 days but ended up being there for 6 days. The major issue he had was not being able to hold down his bottles.

Last week our girls were all complaining of stomach aches and each one ended up puking just once in a 24 hour period and then were better the next day. We have no idea where this stomach bug came from as Bryan and I were fine.

Here's how Hudson gets a bath: he just gets wiped down with a washcloth and soap! No actual baths yet as we can't risk getting his catheter contaminated with germs in the tub. :( He doesn't mind his quick wipe down and doesn't know what he's missing, yet.

Hooray! We are so excited to officially have a home nurse to help us out with Hudson's care at home. It has taken months to get everything organized but God has made everything work according to His plan and purpose.

Hudson did not get to come home today after all. Even after surgery yesterday his catheter still had trouble draining while on dialysis last night. So today he went in for surgery #4 to just replace his catheter with the next size up.

Yep, Hudson is only 2 1/2 months old and just had surgery #3 today. Early Wednesday morning we were having trouble getting his dialysate to drain from him. His cycler kept giving us error message after error message and by his 10th drain he was simply stuck on 85 mLs and simply would not drain any more.

Hudson was two months old this past Friday! AND he just started smiling this past week which is SO cute! He is seriously adorable. We just love having him home to love on, snuggle, cuddle, hold, and kiss any time we want. We made it a whole week without any visits to Riley.

So Hudson's first week home this past week was quite a roller coaster ride. We got discharged Thursday, April 28th, but had to stop back in on Monday for some blood work just to check his levels. We got to Riley around lunch time that Monday afternoon and I took Hudson to get his blood work done and Bryan took the girls to check out the Kid Zone that is now open at the hospital.

Hudson was discharged last Thursday, April 28th after a 46 day NICU/hospital stay! We are so glad that he is home and that our family is finally together. The girls are SO in love with their brother and just love showing him off. There is also lots of whining and arguing about whose turn it is to hold Hudson.

Capturing Hope Photography is a free service offered to families in the NICU. I thought I would sign up to remember our time in the NICU and good thing I did because we left the NICU and headed to the Renal Floor 3 days later after these were taken. The pictures turned out way better than I thought they would! They are perfect! Enjoy viewing some of my favorites!

This past Friday and Saturday Hudson has been off of dialysis during the day for 8 hours and then picks right back up doing dialysis hourly with 75mL exchanges. He has been taking 58mL of fortified breastmilk from a bottle.

Look who is ONE MONTH OLD today?! Hudson is SO precious to us and we thank God for him every single day. This past month has been the hardest thing our family has ever had to go through but we just thank God for all of it. There were a couple times we just didn't know if Hudson was going to make it and yet here we are today astounding the doctors.

Highlight of today was that Hudson got moved to a new room! Instead of room 4243 we are now in 4242 which is a little bit bigger and has a window! The nurse he had today must have had a slow day because we came in today and she was like "let's change rooms and move Hudson to a crib today!".

Hudson is doing SO good post surgery. Especially since after surgery we basically had to start back at the beginning with minimum feedings and minimum dialysis due to being extremely careful that the small incision made in his belly button would not leak out any dialysate.

We had such a good day today with Hudson. As soon as we got to the hospital Mommy got to hold him right away and held him for almost 2 hours. The two of us listened to Keith and Kristyn Getty music, sang songs, read Dr. Suess books, and just hung out.

So yesterday (3/18/16) was a crazy busy day and yet seems so long ago. We met with Hudson's neurologist after he had had an MRI scan the previous day (3/17). He told us Hudson does have multiple spots on both sides of his brain that showed what we all expected: his brain also had injury due to lack of oxygen. The spots are more like bruising/swelling and we won't know the long term affects of no oxygen to his brain until we see if he isn't meeting milestones as he grows.
Hudson Ryle Schrank was born on 3/13/2016 via emergency c-section due to a full placental abruption. He was trying to take breaths when he was born but they helped him out with compressions, an air bag and soon intubation shortly after birth.
